Howdy NASCAR fans! Blake Smith here. It’s time to pull out your spurs and cowboy hats. NASCAR is headed to Texas for this weekend’s Samsung Mobile 500. This weekend’s event will be the first points event of the season that will be held under the lights.

This will mark the 23rd visit that NASCAR’s elite touring series has made to the 1.5 mile oval, just outside of Fort Worth. Only 4 drivers have competed in all 22 events thus far. This short list of drivers includes the inaugural race winner, Jeff Burton. The 3 other drivers are Jeff Gordon, Mark Martin and Texas native, Bobby Labonte.

Out of the 22 races at the track, Roush-Fenway leads the series with 8 victories. Joe Gibbs Racing and Hendrick Motorsports each have 3. Matt Kenseth is the only driver with a top 10 finishing average at Texas Motorspeedway.

While the NASCAR Sprint Cup and Nationwide Series are in Texas for this weekend’s race, the Craftsman Truck Series will be returning to Rockingham Speedway, This will be the first time since 2004, that one of NASCAR’s top 3 divisions have returned to “The Rock.” That race can be heard on our sister station, 1490 WOMI-AM and 1490womi.com Sunday at 11:45 a.m.

Tune into Saturday’s Samsung Mobile 500 from Texas, beginning at 5:30 PM on WBKR and WBKR.com.
