When I was growing up, it was pretty much a tradition for my mom and dad to invite a bunch of people over to the house after church on Sunday night. And, invariably, there would be a big bowl of Doodads sitting amongst the sandwiches, chips, and dips that constituted "The Spread."

My family and I got to talking about those Sundays over the holidays and began to wonder what ever happened to Doodads.

Do you remember them?

I guess today's Chex Party Mix varieties are comparable, but Doodads were still a bit different. They were a mix of peanuts, pretzels, tube-shaped cheese crackers, and rice and wheat squares (which you couldn't call Chex because Chex are a General Mills product and Doodads came from Nabisco). We loved them. Everybody loved them.

Whenever we'd go to parties elsewhere, there were the Doodads. But I haven't seen them in years, so I guess Chex Party Mix won out. But Doodads aren't the only fun grocery items missing in action. There's a whole slew of products that I did not realize were no longer available.

They say you don't miss the water until the well runs dry. But I haven't really been missing this stuff so much as I've been wondering where they went. Oh well, I guess we'll live.

We've done alright up till now.
