A Sneak Peek of Owensboro Coffee Shops Delicious Seasonal Drink Menus
As someone who grew up in family-owned small businesses, supporting local shops is super important to me. When you shop at a business that is owned by someone you know, you are helping support their dreams. Buying local means more of your money stays in the community. Local businesses often support other local businesses, so the love is reciprocated. Also, that means you are getting the most fresh, quality ingredients that are grown or made in the Owensboro area.
Starbucks kicked off "Pumpkin Spice Season" yesterday, and don't get me wrong, you will sometimes find me there or at Dunkin' at 5 AM headed to the studio, but I also make a point to visit our local coffee shops as often as I can. So I decided to feature some of Owensboro's locally-owned coffee shops and their delicious seasonal drinks, including, yes, the ever-so-popular, PSL, Pumpkin Spice Latte.
Niko's Bakery & Cafe
Niko's Bakery & Cafe is a little piece of heaven located in Wesleyan Park Plaza at 601 Emory Drive. Not only do they have incredible homemade breads and pastries, their breakfast, lunch, and take-and-bake dinner options are so creative and always a home run in the taste department. I love that they use local produce and meats from Cecil's and Hillview Farms just to name a couple. They also brew Calhoun-based Mylke coffee and have a full menu of tasty drinks. Here are some of their featured drinks this fall:
Snickerdoodle! I'm coming for you!
Gramp's Coffee and Donuts
Gramp's Coffee and Donuts is the coolest little shop right on the corner of 4th and Frederica St. I have had dreams about that case of mouth-watering cronuts! They love to have fun with different flavor combinations for their treats and drinks and fall is the perfect time to experiment with spices and pumpkin goodness. They announced a couple of weeks ago the return of the beloved Smooth Operator peanut butter and chocolate masterpiece. I'm excited about their new drink selection that begins in September. Gramps will offer a Banana Bread Latte, Pumpkin Spice Latte, Pumpkin Cream Cold Brew, and what I know will be my favorite just because of the name, Smashing Pumpkins Shaken Espresso. They always have a great playlist going!
Windy Hollow Biscuit House
Windy Hollow Biscuit House at 630 Emory Drive is a favorite weekend brunch spot for the Maddox fam. Four words. Cinnamon Roll Bread Pudding. We love that breakfast buffet and the service is always amazing. Chad and I also meet them once a month to treat a local non-profit to Bunches of Lunches catered by the Biscuit House. I just recently learned that they have a specialty coffee bar! So you can enjoy while you eat their good ole southern home cooking or stop in during the morning drive time and grab an iced coffee, frappe, espresso, or smoothie drink. Their seasonal flavors include butter pecan, Rocky Road, and of course, Pumpkin Spice!
Kahawa Java Shop
Kahawa Java Shop is a beautiful space full of light at 2601 W. Parrish Ave. The dynamic mother-daughter duo Ticy and Ayanna have created the perfect place to foster not only a love for their delicious drinks and pastries but connection in the community. They want the modern and cozy decor to be welcoming and inspire people to gather and spend quality time conversing with a good cup of coffee. They've even started carrying adorable mugs, shirts, and sweet-smelling Blue House candles. You can order online and pick up any of these seasonal signature drinks or one of their other delightful flavors. That Butterscotch Macchiato is calling my name!
The Creme Coffee House
The Creme Coffee House is a downtown staple at 109 E. 2nd Street and with a mobile coffee truck. They have a unique menu with tons of variety when it comes to baked goods and drinks of all kinds. Of course, they are known for their amazing coffee options. I also love the eclectic decor and local artwork that covers the exposed brick walls. They just released their fall menu yesterday and I am so here for it! Look at some of these creative names and flavor combinations! They have even more to offer as well. It's so hard to decide which one to try first.
The Spot Coffee & Finery
The Spot Coffee & Finery is located at 217 Williamsburg Square and they also have an awesome coffee bus that you can find around town at community events. My favorite thing about The Spot, other than their organic fair-trade coffee and yummy baked goods, is that they support local art in a big way. It covers the walls and shelves in the shop providing unique eclectic decor that you can purchase and enjoy in your own home. They also host poetry nights and shows with live music from local bands. My husband, Michael, has played there many times. The Spot folks are also supporters of live theatre having sponsored shows at T.W.O. I really appreciate everything they do for creatives here in Owensboro. I also appreciate that Big Yeti drink! Here are the specialty drinks they've prepared to get us all in "Fall mode." That's real pumpkin in those lattes, y'all!
