A beloved Broadway star is coming to Owensboro! Anthony Rapp, who originated the role of "Mark Cohen" in the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning musical Rent, will be here in September for an impactful conversation presented by New Beginnings Sexual Assault Support Services.

Rapp, who has an extensive stage, screen, and television career, will be on stage at Theatre Workshop's Empress Theatre for "Stories, Stage, & Strength: Anthony Rapp in Conversation." I will be sitting down with Anthony to talk about his career and his life behind-the-scenes.

A few years ago, Anthony dove into those experiences on stage in his Off-Broadway show, Without You.

I saw the show at New World Stages in New York City and sat in the front row. Going into that show, I was familiar with Anthony's story, but I wasn't prepared- at all- for the honesty and raw emotion he hit the audience with. I saw about a dozen shows during that particular Broadway trip. Anthony's show was one of my favorites. I was moved to tears multiple times and was gutted by the heartbreak of some of his life experiences.

Through incredible bravery in sharing his own story, Anthony has also become a vocal high-profile advocate for victims' rights. That's precisely why New Beginnings is welcoming Anthony to Owensboro for an impactful night of conversation. Rapp is the latest in a series of similar community conversations that have featured Elizabeth Smart and Maggie Nichols, who was "Athlete A" in the U.S.A Women's Gymnastics sex abuse scandal.

"Stories, Stage, & Strength: Anthony Rapp in Conversation" is proudly sponsored by the Owensboro Regional Suicide Prevention Coalition.
