Have you noticed how many things have changed with the next generation? Today’s younger crowd is minimalistic. They prefer fewer things and value experiences over “stuff.” It’s a shift that can be hard to accept, especially when we look around at the sentimental treasures we’ve held onto for years. The truth is, many of the keepsakes passed down through generations may end with us. Our children and grandchildren may not want Grandma’s china or Great-Aunt Edna’s antique cabinet. But there’s one exception that still seems to spark joy: that classic ceramic Christmas tree. And what better way to create a lasting memory than to make your own?

More Than Just a Christmas Tree

Christmas was always a special time in my home. Even though we didn’t have much growing up, my mom always made sure the season felt magical. She loved to decorate, spent more on gifts than we could really afford, and made sure memories were created that would last a lifetime. And she accomplished all of that, and so much more. The holidays haven’t been quite the same since I lost both of my parents over ten years ago. When my mom passed away from breast cancer, one thing I knew I had to keep was her ceramic Christmas tree. My mom wasn’t an artist by trade, but she took great pride in painting that special tree. Even if it’s a keepsake that may not be passed down to the next generation, I’ve cherished putting it out each year as a beautiful reminder of all the special holidays we shared.

Do You Have Any Special Holiday Traditions?

As time passes and life shifts, many of us find ourselves clinging a little tighter to the traditions that made the holidays feel magical. Whether it’s baking Grandma’s famous cookies, hanging a certain ornament first, or putting out a cherished decoration, these small rituals hold big meaning. That’s exactly why creating something with your own hands, like a ceramic Christmas tree, can become the start of a new tradition.
