Next Monday, the Marilyn & William Young Charitable Foundation will be celebrating its 20th anniversary by featuring the work of area schools that participated in the Foundation's Student Leadership Grant Program.  Here at WBKR, we're going to spend a few days highlighting some of the schools and students who participated.

Today, we were joined by students from Estes Elementary.  Led by Katy Harrison, Katy's students held a contest called "The Amazing Shake".  The contest encouraged participating students to learn manners, discipline, respect and professional conduct in a variety of settings.  The winners (in the photo above) were Devyn, Judith, and Belinda!

The "Amazing Shake" consisted of students participating in four rounds:

First round- Handshake (focusing on eye-to-eye contact and personal introductions)

Second round- Mock Phone Interviews (cell phone etiquette)

Third round- Etiquette (they practiced with a sit down "Olive Garden" dinner)

Fourth round- Face to Face Interview

Interviews conducted by Katy Harrison and Principal Williams.

Devyn, Judith, Belinda and Yandel (not pictured) won $100 shopping sprees to Kohl's and will be transported to the celebration Monday in a limousine.

The Marilyn & William Young Charitable Foundation's Student Leadership Grants Celebration is set for Monday, January 27th from 4pm to 6pm in the lobby of the RiverPark Center in downtown Owensboro.  Each school in the Davies County Public, Owensboro Public and Owensboro Catholic School Systems were invited to accept a grant of $1000 last year to complete service projects in our community.

It's our pleasure and honor here at WBKR to showcase a few of those service projects!
