Barb and I were chatting the other day about a new movie that is going to be filmed in Kentucky. It features a famous rescue dog whose unfortunate situation has inspired state animal cruelty laws. He has become quite the ambassador!

We both agreed that after being totally traumatized by the movie Marley & Me, we will never watch an animal movie without Googling it first to make sure there is a happy ending! Thankfully, there is definitely a happy ending here, but I still did a little dive into this story and the details.

In 2021, Ethan, the Cane Corso, was found freezing and abandoned in the Kentucky Humane Society parking lot. Near death, this poor dog had been beaten, and once volunteers got him to the vet, they found out his organs were on the verge of shutting down. Weighing in at 38 pounds when he should have been closer to 80, this poor baby is the definition of a survivor.

Seeing any dog in a state like that is heartbreaking, but a dog that is supposed to be larger than life and majestic like a Corso? So horrible. How does something like this happen? Ethan's recovery was such an inspiration; it was all the motivation his humans needed to fight for better laws regarding animal welfare.

Dubbed Ethan Almighty because of his miraculous journey, he has also caught the attention of Hollywood. Very soon, the Bardstown area and parts of Louisville will be bustling as movie sets. Actors Sean Patrick Flannery, Selma Blair, and Trevor Donovan star in the silver screen version of this heroic tale.

As Ethan's human, Jeff Callaway, says in this next clip, although the film is not going to be a documentary, it is obviously based on real-life events. He hopes that this will bring awareness to the work that still needs to be done to make animals and, ultimately, everyone safer.

"Ethan Almighty" does not yet have a release date. You can follow along for updates with superstar Ethan via his Facebook page. As you can see, his advocacy work continues!
