Evansville native Kyle Kuric, the University of Louisville's leading scorer during its 2011-2012 Final Four season, has been diagnosed with a brain tumor.

Kuric's current team, Barcelona's Gran Canaria, made the announcement Tuesday.

Kuric has been playing basketball in Spain for the last three years and, on Thursday, will undergo brain surgery.

He has been admitted to a Barcelona hospital.

Kyle's wife, Taraneh, gave birth to twins in August.

Rick Pitino, who coached Kuric from 2008 through 2012, issued the following statement: “Our prayers and good wishes go out for a healthy and speedy recovery for Kyle.  He’s one of the finest young men that I have had the privilege to coach, and our Louisville family’s prayers are with him.”

The University of Louisville is accepting cards and notes of support and will forward them all to Kuric in Barcelona.
