Experience the Kentucky Bourbon Trail from INSIDE the Barrel! [PHOTOS]
According to the Kentucky Distiller's Association, there are more barrels of bourbon than people in the state. With 10.3 million in the aging process, that works out to about 2 barrels per person! Of course, bourbon can be made anywhere, but true Kentucky bourbon is definitely the best -in my unprofessional opinion.
Obviously, there are a lot of folks around the world who agree with me as Kentucky's Bourbon Trail, created in 1999, has grown to 40 plus distilleries including numerous craft bourbon tours. Thanks to the trail, Kentucky has welcomed more than 2.5 million visitors from all 50 states and 25 countries in the last five years. That is incredible. It also means that planning is a must if you are wanting to explore all the trail has to offer.
I have found the most perfect place for bourbon enthusiasts to relax in between learning the tradition of distilling and sampling delicious spirits. Really get INTO the experience with Bourbon Barrel Retreats.
Nestled right in the heart of the Kentucky Bourbon Trail area is a quiet getaway with peaceful scenery, a hot tub, a fire pit, hammocks, and more. However, these aren't just ordinary ole cabins. They are gigantic bourbon barrels! The modern decor inside the one-bedroom, one-bath living quarters is beautiful but the real show-stopper is the circle window showing off the gorgeous view.
I have always wanted to go on some bourbon trail tours and things, but the thought of planning it all is not my jam. Something helpful that the BBR folks offer is help planning your itinerary whether you want to hit as many distilleries as you can or focus on the popular restaurants in the area, they can tell you the best spots to visit. I think this would be the perfect Fall weekend trip for couples or a group of friends.
