If you tuned into The WBKR Waking Crew this morning, you heard my good friend Vicki Ellis discussing critical lows in the blood supply at Western Kentucky Regional Blood Center, a center that serves 6 hospitals in the WBKR listening area.  Several factors, like the weather, are to blame, but the most important issue is the fact that WE NEED YOUR BLOOD!  So, we're gonna need you all pop open some veins!

Western Kentucky Regional Blood Center is sending out the all-call to donors.  Here are the donor guidelines:

You must be 17 or older to donate, though you can donate at 16 if you have parental consent.  You must weigh at least 110 pounds and you're encouraged to eat and drink well before coming in to donate.  Donors must also wait 8 weeks in between blood donations.  And, if you are currently on prescription medications, you need to alert Blood Center staff upon check-in.

The Western Kentucky Regional Blood Center is open Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays 8:30am to 5:30pm, Tuesdays from 8:30am to 8pm, and Fridays from 8:30am to 4:30pm.  The office is located at 3015 Old Hartford Road in Owensboro.  For more information, you can call 270-684-9296.

If you can't make it to the office, be on the lookout for the Western Kentucky Regional Blood Center Bloodmobile.  It's always out and about as part of the center's Blood Drive program.

Again, the Center is at critical lows in the supply, Gang!  They need your blood.  And, remember, when you donate, you GIVE THE GIFT OF LIFE!
