These are the ‘Dirtiest’ Songs in Country Music
Country music seems obsessed with "dirt" these days, with several hit song titles featuring an earthy name.
I've been a fan of country music for most of my life, but it wasn't until I was a teenager that I really began to appreciate the genre. As an adult, I've come to enjoy all eras of country music, listening to everything from Geroge Jones and Vince Gill to Morgan Wallen and Jelly Roll. I love it all, and I think each new artist has brought something unique to the country music table along the way.
There are many folks these days that claim new country music is only about "trucks, drinking beer, and dirt roads." True or not, those don't seem like bad topics to me. I've spent many weekends drinking beer with my friends next to a row of trucks, which were often parked near a dirt road, and it was always a good time. Let's face it, those are the current redneck country staples.
All that said, I do see the point folks are making about played-out themes in country music. The word "dirt," for example, has been thrown out a lot over the years. While many popular country songs feature "dirt" in the name, it's safe to say many might have had their earthy fill for the time being. Here are the "dirtiest" songs in modern country music.
Noah Hicks (ft. Justin Moore) - Dirt Roads Dirt
While this tune isn't a band song at all, it does seem to check all the cliché boxes. My favorite line from this one is "Yeah, they say we're stuck in the past, but that's how we like it."
Justin Moore - This Is My Dirt
While Justin Moore might appear to just have a fascination with dirt, there is a good reason. Moore has gone on record saying "This Is My Dirt" is a song about not only how one grows up, but more specifically, where they grew up. Moore was raised on the same land that's been in his family since the 1800s, and it's that same land he's raising his kids on.
Cody Johnson - Dirt Cheap
I'm not going to lie, this is one of my favorite country songs right now. CoJo is one of my favorite new country artists, and this song doesn't miss a beat (pun intended). According to Holler, CoJo even said "Dirt Cheap" is one of his favorites from his latest album titled "Leather."
Jordan Davis (ft. Luke Bryan) - Buy Dirt
"Buy Dirt" was a huge success for Jordan Davis and Luke Bryan, landing at No. 1 in 2022 on Billboard's Hot Country Songs chart and the Country Airplay survey. (Maybe that's why the housing market soared during that time?)
Morgan Wallen - Rednecks, Red Letters, Red Dirt
Morgan Wallen is another one of my favorite artists, and this song is probably not one of his more well-known tunes. That said, I still like it. (Anyone else miss Wallen's mullet?)
Jon Pardi - Dirt On My Boots
"Dirt on My Boots" is another tune you've likely heard before. This one is a tad older, but did spend a few weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Country Chart in 2016. This song was Pardi's second number-one single after "Head Over Boots." (Boots are also a redneck staple.)
Jason Aldean - Dirt Road Anthem
Here's another older tune. According to American Songwriters, “Dirt Road Anthem” was written by Colt Ford and Brantley Gilbert before both received success in their respective solo careers. Jason Aldean recorded the song, which climbed to the top of the charts. (Go dirt!)
Florida Georgia Line - Dirt
While Florida Georgia Line may not have been forever, their song "Dirt" (which is forever) did have lasting success. The song was released in the summer of 2014, and according to Genius, it was the first single from Florida Georgia Line’s Fall 2014 album, "Anything Goes." The song peaked at #1 on the Country Billboard Charts.
Dean Brody – Dirt
Two years before American country duo Florida Georgia Line released their song titled "Dirt," Canadian country artist Dean Brody released a single with the same title. That song was the title track of his third studio album.
Randy Houser - Rub A Little Dirt On It
In 2022, Randy Houser released "Rub A Little Dirt On It," which hit country airwaves as a single ahead of his "Note to Self" album. Taste of Country noted the track is a gentle reminder that although times can get tough, they are only temporary.
Aaron Pritchett - Dirt Road In 'Em
Lastly, I'll mention "Dirt Road in 'Em," which was recorded by highly underrated Canadian country artist Aaron Pritchett. The song was released in 2016 and was a Top 10 hit on the Billboard Canada Country chart. There are likely more "dirty" country songs I could mention, but I'll leave it here for now. Go take a shower.
