Southern Indiana Marching Bands Shine in 2025

The 2025 high school marching band season is hitting its big finale, and if you’ve been out to a Friday night football game or one of the local invitationals, you already know how much talent we’ve got right here in Southern Indiana. The students have put in hours (and hours, and hours) of hard work – on the field, in the band room, and even in parking lots – to bring us the kind of performances that give you goosebumps. And now, it’s almost time for the big stage: the Indiana State School Music Association (ISSMA) competitions.

Here’s how ISSMA competition works: Indiana marching bands are divided into two main groups. The Scholastic Class was created so that smaller schools, or those with fewer resources, still have a fair shot to shine. The Open Class is for everyone else. Both groups are further split up based on school enrollment, which keeps things competitive and exciting.

Key Dates for the 2025 ISSMA Competitions

These dates will decide who takes home the 2025 ISSMA titles:

  • October 11 – Scholastic Class Prelims
  • October 18 – Open Class Regionals
  • October 25 – Scholastic Class Finals
  • November 1 – Open Class Semi-State
  • November 8 – Open Class State Finals at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indy

Of course, none of us can sway those official results – but we can have a little fun of our own. That’s why we’ve created our very own Southern Indiana Marching Band Poll! This is your chance to cheer on your favorite band, cast your vote, and show some local love.

The poll is simple: all the schools are listed in alphabetical order, and there’s even a write-in option if we missed anyone (our apologies in advance!). The best part? You can vote as often as you like until October 19, 2025.
