Kentucky “I Voted” Sticker Design Contest Finalist is Making the Internet Cackle
Kids are just the best ever. They say the darndest things, do the darndest things, and are often hilarious without even meaning to be. Most of all, I love how creative they are! My son is one of those creative kids who dances to the beat of his own drum, and he comes by it naturally (I'll admit I do too!) So I think that's why those kiddos are my favorite.
With an important election day approaching on November 5th, we all should be prepared to do our civic duty. After all, if you don't vote, you can't complain, right? Or so they say. It is a chance for us to have a voice in what kind of future we want. And most importantly, snag a sweet "I voted" sticker!
Even as a grown up, I still love a good sticker. Its been a long time since the "I voted" sticker got an upgrade, and I think it's awesome that the state of Kentucky recently hosted a design contest for students in the Bluegrass state to put their patriotic creativity to the test and submit their artwork. One design in particular, tested the limits of the theme, and ended up being the favorite of the entire internet.
Here were the nine finalists. Three from each grade:
High School
- Ella Dollison, Trigg County High School
- Riley Taylor, Russell County High School
- Colin Harris, Lafayette High School, Fayette County
Middle School
- Lillian Bonczkiewicz, Homeschool, Carlisle County
- Eden Barksdale, Barksdale Home School, Ohio County
- Ava Taylor, Faith Christian School, Livingston County
A finally, the category with the pièce de résistance...
Elementary School
- Cash Litzler, Flemingsburg Elementary School, Fleming County
- Addy Wells, Jesse Stuart Elementary School, Hopkins County
- Caroline “Farris” Renfro, Lexington Christian Academy, Fayette County
Lets just take a closer look, shall we?
Created by Cash Litzler. Nothing says "democracy" like The Lizard villain from The Amazing Spiderman stories. This version seems to be specifically from the 2012 movie and is an incredible drawing for an elementary schooler! I am super impressed. And so is the entire internet.
Unfortunately, Cash's artwork did not win the official contest, but this fabulous creation by Lillian did!
I sure hope this becomes an annual thing. I'm not sure if any of the entries will ever top Cash's lizard, but it's cute to see what the kids come up with.
