Kentucky Man Can’t Wait for the New ‘Salem’s Lot,’ Though the Original Scared the Crap Out of Him
Did you pay close attention to horrors of that video? Seriously, did you see that? That kid's laying there in bed trying to sleep and the fog starts rolling outside his window like it's on Turbo blast. Then, some other kid- a completely creepy one at that- floats in and starts tapping and scratching on the window. Okay, sure! Those 1979 special effects are pretty bad, but that scene scared the hell out of me when I saw it for the first time.
Yeah, I was like 9-years-old and was spending the night at the grandparent's house in Philpot, Kentucky. I don't remember my grandfather being home on that particular night. He worked 12-hour shifts at a local manufacturing plant called W.R. Grace. I think he was at work. So, there I was- with my grandmother- watching Salem's Lot on TV. Who thought this was a good idea?
I remember watching that window scene like it happened yesterday. First of all, why is the kid in bed smiling???? Does anything about that little creep outside your window look fun? Uh, the answer is NO! When my friends came over to play, they didn't look like that. And, if they did, I certainly wouldn't open the window and let them in.
Plus, now that the window's open and the kid's floating through your bedroom with his blood-red eyes and those big sharp fangs, I repeat my question. Kid, why are you smiling? This isn't going to end well for you just like my Salem's Lot viewing party with my grandmother didn't end well for me.
I remember going to bed that night convinced that one of my friends was going to be bitten by vampire and come scraping at the windows of my grandma's house.
Well, a new generation of young people have the opportunity to be terrorized by the same Stephen King classic. A new Salem's Lot movie is about to be unleashed on Max.
Have you seen the trailer for it? Now that I am older (and I have worked beyond the mental scarring of the original), I can't wait to see it. I think this looks fantastic.
Salem's Lot debuts on Thursday, October 3rd. I am going to be watching with my windows closed and locked.
