This Has Been Named the Best Donut Shop in Kentucky and 7th-Best in the U.S.

I'm going to take this opportunity to give shout-outs to the awesome local donut shops and bakeries here in my hometown of Owensboro. Whether we're talking old school like The Rolling Pin and Koehler's or new school like Gramps and Parlor Doughnuts, we rock it out when it comes to America's favorite pastries.

Donut Shops

You know, I can't think of anyone I know or have ever known who doesn't like donuts. No...love donuts. My favorite will always be any form of jelly donut. My least favorite will always be any donut with sprinkles. No, of course sprinkles don't ruin the donut, but they take away from the flavor, if you ask me. I don't like nuts in ice cream for the same reason.

So, my fellow donut lovers, are you thoroughly satisfied with the donuts at your local bakery? You certainly should be, but have you ever searched for the best donuts the whole of Kentucky has to offer? Were you surprised when it wasn't your favorite shop?

Unless you named Nord's Bakery in Louisville, you could have been surprised.

The humble, 70-plus-year-old establishment on Preston Street has been Nord's Bakery since 2002. Before that, it was Klein's Bakery, and it has been delighting Louisville and Kentucky customers for decades.

Nord's Bakery Reviews

Yelp's fleet of critics agree and have named Nord's Bakery the top donut shop in the Commonwealth. Additionally, they ranked the best ones from each state, and Nord's comes in at number seven. They took some time this weekend to post the celebration.

The selections on the Nord's menu don't differ much from what you'd expect to see in other donut shops, but reviews and this lofty placement suggest they're not selling any ordinary old chocolate long johns.

And yes, I did see the raspberry jelly donut and am nearly in tears because I want one now, and all the donut shops (Nord's included) are closed as I write this.
