You Can Build an Entire Kentucky Road Trip Around These Unusual Museums
I'm a big fan of museums. I've previously mentioned, in this space, that I seek out mini-golf courses when I'm traveling. The same goes for museums. Every town, region, what have you, has history, and that's how they all share it. It's always cool to learn about new places.
In Kentucky, you can do all of that, and in every town you visit, just about. But Kentucky also allows the interested road tripper to make a unique adventure out of museum visits. That's because there are some really unusual collections across the Commonwealth.
The Vent Haven Museum
I'm a lifelong Kentuckian, but if I'd never heard of this place, I wouldn't guess that the Bluegrass State is home to the only ventriloquism museum in the world. It's in Fort Mitchell, up near Covington and Cincinnati.
The National Corvette Museum
Okay, so we're taking a little break from the "weird" and moving into the fast lane, where we find lots and lots of Corvettes. And we find them where they make them, in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Again, not a weird stop on your museum tour, but, by the same token, you won't find another Corvette Museum anywhere else.
The Great American Dollhouse Museum
Your museum road trip could take you to Danville, where you will find The Great American Dollhouse Museum. Okay, yes, dollhouse museums are probably not unheard of in other locations. Well, on a trip to Wisconsin last summer, we visited The House on the Rock, curated by the eccentric Alex Jordan, and it housed an enormous section devoted to dollhouses. At the Danville location, you can not only take in beautiful, intricately designed structures, but you'll find everything you need to create your own in the store that's part of the museum.
And no, we are not finished. Not even close. The trip continues with several more destinations below. Enjoy.
