Kentucky author and professor at Eastern Kentucky University, Keven McQueen, is no stranger to the scariest of stories. He has written many tales of true crime in the Bluegrass state including his latest book, Historic Louisville Murders.

In it, he documents twenty-four murders that occurred in Louisville, KY from the 1840s to the 1920s. Killings based on revenge, love triangles, and even a murder inspired by a political joke. You can meet McQueen and hear him talk about these gruesome moments in history at an upcoming event hosted by the Daviess County Public Library.

He's also going to discuss the time he exchanged letters with the infamous cult leader Charles Manson in the 1980s. You'll be able to see the items Manson sent McQueen including a doll made from socks, letters, polaroids, and other exchanges between Manson's lawyer and one of his followers.

My friend Wes, one of the organizers of the event told me, "Keven heard about the sock dolls in the 80s, and his morbid curiosity encouraged him to send a letter to Manson. Then he got a bit scared when one of his followers got out of prison."

If you somehow don't know why that would be terrifying, here is a short video about the Manson murders and his dangerous "family" of loyal followers who committed heinous slayings in the late 1960s.

You can hear the rest of the story at the Daviess County Public Library on Saturday, October 19th at 2 PM. The event is free, and you can purchase copies of Keven McQueen's Historic Louisville Murders for him to sign after the presentation.
