Remember when I told you KU and LG&E customers would see reductions in their bills due to the passage of the Tax Reform Bill at the beginning of the year? The savings will be pretty significant according to the Kentucky Public Service Commission.

Both utility companies announced Monday they would file a settlement agreement with the KPSC asking for approval to return nearly $180 million in savings to their customers this coming spring. The savings would come from reductions on the environmental surcharge line item on March bills, then a credit to April bills based on energy consumption.

The settlement is subject to KPSC approval, but if approved, KU customers will receive an estimated $91 million in savings. For a residential customer using an average of 1,179 Kwh per month, that is about a 5.3 percent bill reduction.

Kentucky Utilities serves most of Western Kentucky.
