2011 March For Babies

Here at WBKR, we were very excited about Saturday's March For Babies!  And, now that it's wrapped, we are even MORE EXCITED!  The turnout Saturday morning was HUGE as teams from US Bank Home Mortgage, MPD, OCTCS, Fith Third Bank, Owensboro Pediatrics and many, many more joined forces to take part in an event that's been around since 1970!  March For Babies is the annual fundraiser for the March of Dimes and this year's march was record-breaking.  The amount raised blew us all away!

As of Saturday morning, local teams had raised over $90,000 and, as of Monday, projections were at $100,000 plus (as some teams have fundraisers ongoing through June!)  Local March of Dimes director, Amy Nonweiler, sent out a "thank you" to everyone who supported the event . . .

Thank you for walking together for stronger, healthier babies!!!  I hope you and your team enjoyed the event.  We are on track to set a new fundraising record!

When you walked in March for Babies, you gave hope to the more than half a million babies born too soon each year.  The money you raised supports programs in our community that help moms have healthy, full-term pregnancies and it funds research to find answers to the problems that threaten our babies.  The March of Dimes is making every dollar count as we work to improve the health of babies both nationally and in the Commonwealth.

Thank you again to our March of Dimes Board of Directors, Walk Committee Members, Volunteers, Sponsors, Companies that provided goods and services, Team Captains, and all of our WALKERS who made the event a success!

Thanks for supporting the mission of the March of Dimes, “To improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality.”

We had many WBKR listeners participate in the 2011 March For Babies and that makes us honored and proud!!  It was also an honor for the station to be an official media sponsor of the event.  And, personally speaking, it was an honor to emcee the opening ceremonies and witness, first-hand, the way the community rallied to make the 2011 event the most profitable event in its local history!
