In 2009, hip-hop star Chris Brown was arrested and charged with assault after beating up his then-girlfriend, pop superstar Rihanna. Flash forward three years and, whaddya know, Brown is performing not once, but twice on the Grammy Awards telecast. Yes, there he was, dancing around the stage, people cheering. Why, he was even won of the night's winners--for Best R&B Album. But his appearance and acceptance has drawn widespread criticism, and rightly so. While, I only watched two of the Grammys' three hours, I was lucky enough to have BOTH of this performances fall into my viewing time. I wasn't pleased. And neither was country superstar Miranda Lambert. On Twitter, Miranda labeled it "not cool." I would have imagined that was an understatement coming from a woman whose parents once ran a battered women's shelter until a follow-up tweet seemed to indicate she was backing off her original opinion. But I believe you and I know how someone who's given us "Kerosene," "Gunpowder & Lead," and "Mama's Broken Heart" REALLY feels about someone like Chris Brown...tweets or no tweets.
