More Retailers Saying ‘No’ to Opening on Thanksgiving
After the Black Friday tradition kicked into high gear decades ago, somewhere along the way, certain retailers--Walmart chief among them--decided start the holiday shopping season a little earlier by opening on Thanksgiving Day.
This led to more and more eager Christmas bargain hunters wolfing down dessert, putting away the dishes and hitting the bricks in search of the best deals.
But 2020 will look a little different.
The recent announcement by Walmart and Sam's Club that they will be closed on Thanksgiving Day for the first time in many years seems to have been followed by a wave of other retailers making the same declaration.
Earlier this week, Dick's Sporting Goods and Target announced their Thanksgiving Day closures and, according to USA Today, Kohl's and Best Buy have joined the fray.
Academy Sports + Outdoors will also be closed on Thanksgiving.
Other retailers like Costco, Lowe's, and Home Depot are usually closed for the holiday and that doesn't look to change in 2020.
