NASA Issues Alert About Unsafe Eclipse Glasses
I understand that "eclipse glasses" are being sold all over the place in Western Kentucky, since our region has been pinpointed as the best place to view next month's total solar eclipse.
NASA is telling us that there are UNSAFE eclipse glasses being distributed.
To view a total solar eclipse, you can't just look up at it with regular sunglasses.
So NASA is advising that any glasses you purchase for eclipse viewing must not be scratched or wrinkled.
Also, look for the name of the U.S. MANUFACTURER (it's very important that the eclipse glasses were made here) like American Paper Optics, Rainbow Symphony, Thousand Oaks Optical, or TSE 17.
Plus, the glasses must have the ISO reference number 12312-2 with the ISO icon.
Since I've never in my life had or purchased eclipse glasses, I thank NASA for this information.
Make sure you take a look at the warning they issued so you'll know exactly what you need to look for.
