KY Shoppers Might Actually Like This New Walmart Security Measure
Walmart takes a licking and keeps on ticking, to borrow an iconic phrase from the old Timex commercials. By that I mean, the retail giant can often be seen as the butt of meme jokes regarding self checkout and greeters checking receipts as we walk out the door. (Honestly, no Walmart employee has checked my receipt in several months.)
Walmart Security Measures
But Walmart could not care less, and it shouldn't. It will always rise above it all, no matter what is said on social media. To a lesser extent, some of those social media comments have had to do with Walmart security and how silly it might seem to have to flag down an associate so you can buy a stick of deodorant.
But I get it. In the Walmart stores I commonly use, there are maybe a FEW such cases that need unlocking, but that's only because shoplifters have come along and, with great quickness and agility, dropped something into a pocket or a purse and committed a crime.
Walmart Security...From Your Phone?
But what if you DIDN'T have to go find someone so you could purchase cologne? What if you could open those mildly annoying security locks with your phone? That's already begun in a couple hundred Walmart stores around the country and with employees only at the moment. I haven't encountered that in Kentucky yet, but if it ends up being successful, I'm sure I will.
At present, where it's already been implemented, employees can unlock the cases from their iPhones or Android without making the trek across and often cavernous Walmart. If the retail behemoth moves forward and makes it available for customers, it will likely be through a loyalty program.
We shall wait and see. In the meantime, go ahead and find something to do while you're waiting to select your Nautica for Men knockoff.
