As the National Day of Prayer marks its 75th anniversary, the community will gather not just in faith, but in gratitude, honoring the courage and sacrifice of veterans who have carried burdens most of us can only imagine. It’s a time to come together, to lift our nation, and to hear firsthand how prayer can steady a heart even in the middle of chaos. Here's the schedule of events, all FREE to attend.

Kicking Things Off on May 6

If you’ve lived in Owensboro long enough, you know when it comes to our veterans, this community shows up. It’s just who we are. This is an evening you won't want to miss! It all starts Wednesday evening at the RiverPark Center. From 5:30 to 6 p.m., the Blue Bridge Boys will be playing to open the night, and at 6, everything moves into a time of prayer, worship, and testimony. It’s going to be a wonderful evening of people coming together, taking a little time to reflect and get ready for the day ahead.

Major Jeff Struecker: A Story of Faith and Courage

One of the highlights that night will be retired Army Major Jeff Struecker. He was part of the Battle of Mogadishu, which many know from Black Hawk Down, but what he shares goes beyond the battlefield. He talks about faith, about prayer, and what it all looks like in the middle of something most of us can’t imagine. There will also be a chance to ask questions afterward during a Q&A at 8:30 p.m. You don't want to miss his powerful testimony.

Breakfast with Veterans – May 7

The next morning, Major Struecker will speak at Breakfast with Veterans from 8 to 9:30 a.m. at the VFW on the River, hosted by the SPC Brandon Scott Mullins Memorial Fund. This breakfast is a chance to honor local veterans, hear their stories, and celebrate their service. Such an inspiring way to start the day!

National Day of Prayer – Courthouse Lawn

Later on May 7, the observance moves outdoors to the Daviess County Courthouse lawn. It begins at 11:30 a.m. with the “Circle of Good News,” where participants read Scripture aloud. By the end of 20 minutes, the entire Bible has been read together. There’s no need to register! Just bring your Bible, a chair, and anyone you’d like to bring.

From 11:50 a.m. to 1 p.m., the Prayer and Worship Service follows. It’s a time to pray for the nation, lift neighbors and families, and come together as a community. If you can’t attend in person, you can watch live (or later) on the Owensboro National Day of Prayer Facebook page.

Our Community Salutes – May 7 Evening

The final event of the day takes place from 6 to 8 p.m. at the National Guard Armory as part of "Our Community Salutes". This ceremony honors local high school seniors who are enlisting in the military. Major Struecker will speak, offering encouragement and inspiration to those stepping into service as the community celebrates their commitment.
