When it was announced that Owensboro Racing and Gaming was interested in the old Towne Square Mall, I considered that very exciting news. I doubt I was alone in that thinking. As we know, plans changed and it is now lighting up the sky on Highway 60 East.

But the potential for that location was too great to think nothing would ever take it over. Yes, Planet Fitness is now a tenant, but that's just one business. What if a new entertainment complex were to occupy that space? While Owensboro's South Frederica isn't dead by any stretch, the closed mall stands out like a sore thumb amid all the thriving commerce.

New Owensboro Entertainment Complex

Well, I don't know who wished on the right star, but plans are moving forward on a nearly $18 million dollar multi-attraction entertainment venue now that $2 million in incentives under the Kentucky Tourism Development Act has been approved for the project.

Owensboro Entertainment Facility to Bring New Jobs

According to TS Entertainment LLC, which has been working feverishly with the Greater Owensboro Economic Development Corporation to get the ball rolling on this mighty endeavor, the new facility could create 75 full-time jobs and 50 part-time permanent jobs upon completion.

Naturally, another exciting aspect of all of this is what a boon it will be to Owensboro and Daviess County tourism. According to a Greater Owensboro press release, TS Entertainment projects that one-quarter of first-year guests could be from out of state. They anticipate that figure to rise to 35% by year five.

Owensboro's potential in so many facets is being realized, and a brand new entertainment complex on the south side is some pretty sweet icing on a very lucrative cake.
