Owensboro Health Takes Treatment on the Road with a New Mobile Clinic
After a soft launch last month, Owensboro Health's new mobile clinic is already making huge progress in its mission- to provide accessible healthcare to underserved populations and rural areas here in western Kentucky. The mobile unit features two patient-screening rooms and offers walk-in medical care.
According to Dr. Jim Tidwell, Owensboro Health's Population Health Services Director, the mobile clinic is equipped to offer a variety of treatments and services. Those treatments include the following:
Primary Care Services: General health check-ups and the management of chronic conditions like diabetes and hypertension.
Acute Illnesses: "Urgent Care"-like treatment for common illnesses like colds, flu, infections and minor injuries.
Preventative Care: Vaccinations, health screenings and wellness visits.
Women's Health: Basic gynecological services, including Pap smears and birth control consultations.
Children's Health: Pediatric services that include immunizations, routine check-ups and school/sports physicals.
Referrals: If specialized treatment is deemed necessary, the medical staff will coordinate with other healthcare professionals in the network to arrange that for the patients who need it.
In an effort to provide patients in Daviess County and Hancock County with consistency, which Dr. Tidwell says is key to establishing and maintaining good public health. Owensboro Health has put together permanently-scheduled dates for the mobile clinic.
