Well, the day just got a lot more exciting. We've just learned that someone in Owensboro purchased a Kentucky Powerball ticket that's worth one million dollars.

Million Dollar Winner in Owensboro

The ticket, purchased at the Kroger on Startlite Drive, features these winning numbers...33 – 35 – 58– 61 – 69. The Powerball is 25 which was not matched. There was also a $50,000 ticket purchased at a smoke shop in Louisville.

How to Claim Lottery Winnings

If you purchased that Powerball ticket at Starlite Kroger, you will need to fill out the claim form. Since you won (way) more than $25,000, you will need to take a road trip to Louisville and visit the Kentucky Lottery Headquarters. Hopefully, you can make that trip (come hell or high water, I would make that trip) because the Kentucky Lottery states that you can only claim it by mail if it's less that $99,999. Yes, I would make that trip. And you have 180 days from the time of purchase to do it.

How to Protect Yourself If You Win the Lottery

That's how you claim your money. Here's what Forbes suggests you do before you claim that money. For one thing, and this is a no-brainer, guard that ticket with your life, and that includes being discreet about who you tell. Next up, or maybe first up, secure legal representation and a qualified financial advisor. (This is the first thing I would do.) They'll guide you the rest of the way, more or less, and that will involve preparing you for your inevitable tax responsibilities. Yes, it's a million dollar ticket, but you won't get it all. But you knew that going in.

Here's what a couple of Shark Tank sharks suggest...

After you decide how you'll want to be paid, you're all set. Enjoy your trip to Louisville and your newfound wealth.
