Imagination Library of Daviess County Reveals 2026 Ornament

Oh BOY! I know it is the middle of July, but I can't be the only one who got a good dose of Christmas cheer when I saw this news! The Daviess County chapter of Dolly Parton's Imagination Library has revealed its annual ornament.

You may be familiar with the Imagination Library already, but just in case you live under a rock, I can give you the scoop. They provide free books for children from birth til they are 5 years old. A new or classic story is mailed right to their door so they can foster a love of reading.

Imagination Library Impact

Inspired by her father, who was never able to read, Dolly Parton wanted to make sure kids, not just in the United States, but all over the world, could learn this necessary skill and grow to love it. Over three million children have registered for this program, which means 318,338,104 books have been sent out in total.

How Are Imagination Library Books Funded?

I'm sure Dolly wishes she could cover the cost of all of these books. However, many may not know that community partners in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, and the Republic of Ireland all work very hard to raise funds. They do this with the help of generous sponsors, as well as hosting events and fundraisers.

Fundraisers like the annual Imagination Library of Daviess County ornament sale. Each year, they choose a local landmark to feature in a pewter design. At this point, there are hundreds of folks who have begun collecting them. The Blue Bridge, the iconic Sassafras tree, churches, theatres, farms, etc., there are enough now that someone could very well have their own Imagination Library tree filled with ornaments.

Even though the former Texas Gas building has become dilapidated after years of neglect by its current owners, you can enjoy it as it once was on your Christmas tree! If you close your eyes, you can remember the beautiful courtyard or the decorations they used to set up every year for the holidays.

I think this is the perfect way to honor and remember a once iconic structure that so many of us have fond memories of. The Texas Gas ornaments are $20 a piece, and all proceeds go towards the books and shipping them to kiddos.
