How Well Do You Know Local History? Try Your Hand at Owensboro Trivia!
Trivia nights are making a huge comeback, and we are here for it! My husband and I used to go (pre-kiddo) to Gambrinus every single Thursday night. We joined our smartest friends in downtown Owensboro to represent our team, The Maritime Temptresses.
I can't remember how the name came about, but I think Chad Sewich, the meteorologist, was the inspiration. Get it? "Sea witch?" We were nerds, OK! Anyway, we still love a trivia challenge, and this month, the Owensboro Museum of Science and History is hosting an evening that is all things OWENSBORO!
My favorite subject. Some of you may remember the official game that was created way back in the day. In association with Junior Achievement, there were questions about notable people, local businesses, nature, sports, etc. My best friend actually found a copy and gave it to me! Have you ever played?
From what I have been able to decipher from the History of Owensboro Facebook group, the game was something created by various JA groups across the country as a fundraiser. They also produced an Owensboro Monopoly game! Called the "Owensboro Business Game," in the mid-80s.

Denice Grinis commented, "Oh my goodness, I was one of their advisor's for this game with Steve Anders and Bob McFarland. This group of kids was the best. Their annual report won 1st in the Nation, and their group was among the top ten Nationwide. Their sales for these games were over the top. What great memories!!!!"
Here are some of the example questions. You may have to get your magnifying glass out.
I can't leave you hanging without sharing the answers!
Some of the questions/answers are outdated, but I bet lots of them will be asked at Owensboro Trivia Night on April 23rd at The Pub on Second. It starts at 7 PM, and there are prizes for every round plus a grand prize raffle basket.
Tickets are $25 a person (click here to purchase), and teams with a max of 8 people are welcome. All proceeds benefit the Owensboro Museum of Science & History as they work towards LOTS of VERY exciting updates! You can also get an amazing deal on a family membership (normally $75, but on sale for $37.50) right now at Seize the Deal.
