Today is the First Day of School for many students.  Last night I sat at my dining room table working and my 15-year-old had to remind me.  Oops, for some reason I thought they started Wednesday.  The first of the many mistakes I'll make during this crazy year.

The conversation went something like this:

Me: "Tuck only two more days to sleep in"

Braden: "Mom what do you mean two more days?"

Me:  "School starts Wednesday right?"

Braden:  "MOMMMMM ARE YOU KIDDING RIGHT NOW!?"

Me:  "Silence....crickets"

Braden:  "Mom did you really not know school started tomorrow"

Me:  "Well, I thought they said August 26, no one can make up their minds!"

Braden:  "Oh, Mom I can't with you."

I have come to terms this will not be a typical year.  Our home will not look like the next persons and we may not have to do anything the same as our friends or even the kids in our children's classes.  We will survive.

My oldest a senior.  I cannot even begin to imagine how he feels.  He is taking it like a champ.  My middle son starting his first year of high school.  He is very disappointed he can't see his friends.  My youngest son starting 2nd grade.  He is just happy he will be able to see his friends on the computer.  Finally, the little princess continues preschool.  She thinks she is hot stuff and wishes she could hug her teacher every day.

I have watched mothers post incredible learning rooms and stations on social media and you know what...not once have I been jealous or envious.  I think it is amazing that there are so many parents jumping into this for their children.  It shows that we as a society are embracing the change as good as we can and adapting.   Our dining room has been transformed into a learning place for our kids it is nothing special but it is ours.  Away from television and video games.

There are mothers at home who wish they could work and mothers at work who wish they could be home.  Siblings teaching siblings and juggling their own work as well as helping mom and dad.  Teachers leaving their own at home to go into an empty classroom to teach other kids while theirs are without them.  We are all learning.  We will grow.  We will dare I say "GET THROUGH THIS".

I know I sound like Positive Polly and a lot of the time I am but I have had my share of roller coaster mom moments and before I am finished with this article I will probably have another.  Some days I wake up ready to take on the world and other days I am in the darkest hole.  Not sure if I can even put a foot on the carpet and make it to the shower.  I have learned to practice grace and forgiveness for myself.

The truth is not one of us is truly ready for what this school year holds because we don't have any idea.  Not our educators, our leaders, anyone but the Lord above.  So, the very best thing we can be is present for our families.  In the exact moment, we are given each day and know that mistakes will happen and life will go on.

This momma is struggling knowing I can't be home 24/7 with my kids to help but I will certainly do what I can and they know we are gonna do this as a family.

I posted this on my own personal page yesterday and it is so true.  We as parents were given a purpose for our families and we should look solely to those gifts given us to serve OUR own families.  We cannot be what someone else is it will not work.

I am here rooting for you, cheering you on in the good and hard days.  I am praying for every single teacher, parent, child, school official, leader as we press on through this.

Philippians 4:6-7 says “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

And when life is getting the best of you and you think "man they're holding it together so well"  REMEMBER:  We are all losing our crap some of us just hide it better.

Sincerely Love & Hugs To Each of You,

Angel
