I am in a few local Facebook groups where folks can ask for help when life gets tough. Sometimes people post looking for assistance with bills, car trouble, or even in need of food. Recently, I have seen an increase in people asking for help on social media, not for themselves, but for their pets.

So I thought I would do my part and spread the word about an amazing local resource, the SPARKY Pet Pantry. Saving Paws Animal Rescue of Kentucky is a non-profit organization that rescues, rehabilitates, and rehomes dogs and cats from overcrowded shelters in the area and various situations.

Earlier this year, they also opened the first community pet food and supply pantry. Because if someone is on a fixed income or an unexpected expense pops up, they may have trouble affording what their pet needs. No one should have to give up their furry friend because they've fallen on hard times.

In partnership with the Marilyn & William Young Foundation and Beverly's Hearty Slice, Sparky's pantry offers food, litter, leashes, collars, and toys based on available inventory and determined need. If you or someone you know can benefit from this service, here are the details:

In my best Bob Barker impression, as you can see, spaying and neutering pets is a huge part of their mission. It not only ensures the health of your pet, but it also cuts down on the overflowing pet population in our local shelters.
