According to Inc.com, roughly 60% of small businesses will close within six months of a cyberattack. That article lists four reasons why those small to midsize businesses routinely find themselves at risk for attacks the subsequent dangers of closing. Those reasons are:

  • They typically lack sufficient security measures and trained personnel
  • They store data (like credit card numbers, etc.) that's valuable to hackers
  • They neglect to use an offsite source or third-party service to back up their files or data, making them vulnerable to ransomware
  • They sometimes connect to the supply chain of a larger company, and can be leveraged to break in.

Fastek, an Owensboro-based information technology company, is determined to do something about it. They're hosting a Cyber Defense Workshop next week at the Owensboro Convention Center. The event is FREE and promises to provide business owners in the area valuable information about cyberattacks, how they happen, and what you can do to prevent them.

Fastek founder Chris Murphy says, "Cybercrime is real, it is organized, and it is happening in our backyard." That's precisely why Fastek is hosting the seminar. Murphy adds, "We're committed to helping local businesses stay one step ahead of cyber threats."
