The public will get its first official look at part of the new Owensboro riverfront at Smothers Park as the park's grand opening will take place during Friday After 5 on August 24th with the Owensboro Air Show on Saturday, August 25th rounding out a huge weekend for the city. A small portion of the park will be be open on Thursday, August 23rd at 7:00pm to rededicate the Shelton Freedom Memorial. During Friday After 5, there will be live entertainment courtesy of Mudd River Union performing on the River Overlook at the west end of the park. At 5:30pm, don't miss the chance to to be part of the celebration as a whole new Smothers Park is open for the first time. The kick-off will begin when the spray park is officially opened for kids of all ages to enjoy. At 6:00pm, Mayor Ron Payne will launch the signature fountains on the west end of the park for the first time.

Saturday will begin with static displays and an Open House at the Owensboro Regional Airport from 8:00am-11:00am. Then at 1:00pm, all eyes will be on the skies over the Ohio River in downtown Owensboro as performers showcase vintage aircraft and amazing aerobatic maneuvers. Like these:

Your announcer will be Air Show Hall of Famer Danny Clisham. In addition to the show, the following aircraft will be on display at the airport: F-15 Eagle, SK-61 Bulldog, and a UH 60 Black Hawk Helicopter.

The Air Show is free, however, a limited number of tickets are available for anyone wanting to experience the Air Show from the comfort of the RiverPark Center. Tickets and parking passes (also in a limited quantity) are available at City Hall, or any Independence Bank location in Daviess County. Tickets are $20 (children 5 and younger are free). Audience members to can view the air show from Smothers Park and English Park.
