The Battle of Sacramento – The H.L. Hunley Submarine

Submarines are fascinating and seeing one up close and personal like the one at the Battle of Sacramento is even better.  For the very first time they have this civil war sub at the re-enactment and it is AMAZING.  You can check it out here. 

So this thing is obviously from the 1860's before there was anything remotely related to an engine powering any type of vehicle.  It was hand operated and yes it did indeed go underwater.  Once this thing set off it was powered by eight men on the inside and as they worked... the sub worked.  Check out the video below to see the interior of the sub and also take a look at some of the folks that used to power this puppy.

You don't want to miss the Battle of Sacramento.  It is an amazing sight and today is the day for the actual authentic re-enactment!  Head out before noon and enjoy everything!
