Not only are persimmon's good for eating (when ripe) but according to the farmer's almanac they can predict winter weather too!

Persimmon's are a small orange fruit about the size of a kiwi.  They can be found in your local grocery store during season.  Legend has it that if you get a persimmon and cut it open the kernel inside can predict winter weather.

Here's how;

  • Spoon-shaped kernels = lots of heavy, wet snow fall (hence the shovel!)
  • Fork-shaped kernels= powdery, light snow and a mild winter
  • Knife-shaped kernels= ice, icy winds

This was the first I had heard of the persimmon legend but I sure am curious what will be inside my persimmon when I open it up!
