After years at The Hines Center in Philpot, Owensboro's Polar Bear Plunge is moving to a new location.  And, there are some other BIG changes in store for the 2015 event.  Wanna know where the Plunge is headed and an exciting new fundraiser being cooked up?

The 2015 Polar Bear Plunge will take place in downtown Owensboro at Mitch McConnell Plaza.

The event, in some ways, will look like it did at the inception of the event in Owensboro when it was held in the parking lot of U.S. Bank Home Mortgage.  Instead of jumping into a natural body of water, participants will again plunge into an above-ground swimming pool, but this will be showcased on our beautiful new riverfront.  Downtown Owensboro is THE place to be and the City of Owensboro's event staff, Tim Ross and Natalie Cecil, have committed personnel and City resources to making the 2015 Plunge the most successful ever.

And we have to give special thanks to Meagan Magnus, General Manager of the Hampton Inn Downtown.

The Hampton will host registrations for the Plunge and our brand new event, a 5K fun run/walk the features DONUTS!!

That's right!  Special Olympics Kentucky is partnering with a variety of local bakeries to set up DONUT stops at each mile marker on our course.  And, the grand finale will take place at the finish line, where participants will be awarded a giant bear claw for completing the course.  And what better to celebrate the polar bear than eating a big old bear claw and then plunging into some icy cold water?

In past years, there were pretty much two ways to take part in the Plunge and help contribute to Special Olympics Kentucky.  You could either take the plunge or donate as "too chicken to plunge."  In 2015, there will multiple ways to participate.  You can participate in the donut run.  Plunge.  Or do both.

Stay tuned for more information about the 2015 Polar Bear Plunge.  Like we mentioned, there are big changes on the horizon and YOUR chance to be involved is coming soon.  But we're telling you now so you have plenty of time to round up the courage necessary to take the PLUNGE!
