There’s a Free D-Day Buffet for Veterans in Owensboro, KY
June 6th marks the 81st anniversary of D-Day. It was June 6th of 1944 that an army of U.S., British and Canadian troops launched an attack on German-occupied Western Europe. That orchestrated attack was given the name Operation Overlord. Adolph Hitler had established what he referred to as the Atlantic Wall. Roughly 135,000 troops stormed five beaches that day to begin to break through it. Those attacks- on Utah Beach, Omaha Beach, Gold Beach, Juno Beach, and Sword Beach- ultimately helped change the course of history and "helped liberate Europe from Nazi domination."
To commemorate the 81st anniversary of D-Day, one local restaurant in Owensboro, Kentucky is hosting a D-Day Buffet.
Evelyn Miller, the owner of Windy Hollow Biscuit House, is the daughter of a World War II veteran. In fact, the Millers were a military family. Hal (Evelyn's dad) and his brother Tom dropped out of high school to the join the Army so that they could serve in World War II. To this day, Evelyn and her daughter Hallie remain committed to taking every opportunity they can to celebrate combat heroes like Hal and Tom, who landed on Utah Beach together on June 6th, 1944.
This Friday, that tradition of honoring Hal, Tom and all of our veterans continues with a FREE buffet to thank them for their service. This marks the 4th consecutive year Windy Hollow has hosted veterans for free lunch. The buffet is free. Drink, tax and tip are extra.
