Cops, Cruise, Hoffman, and the Sisters of Divine Providence. In the late 1980s, northern Kentucky got weird in the funnest of ways when two massive Hollywood icons arrived to film a movie that would, itself, become an icon, too.

Rain Man Partially Filmed in Kentucky

So where do cops and nuns come in? I'll tell you.

Hollywood A-listers Tom Cruise and Dustin Hoffman were in multiple northern Kentucky locations filming what would become an Oscar-winning Best Picture in early 1989. I guess, to relieve boredom, they decided to have some fun with the help of local authorities. In either 1987 or 1988 (I'm really not sure which; there's no date on the Facebook image I saw), hilarity ensued, as illustrated by the picture of Cruise and Hoffman shown in handcuffs. It may have thrown folks at first, but the facial expressions are a dead giveaway.

Tom Cruise and Dustin Hoffman 'Arrested'

Rain Man is why Cruise and Hoffman were in Northern Kentucky. And while they were there, they had some fun in Boone County with local law enforcement.

They also spent some time with the Sisters of Divine Providence at St. Anne Convent. The Melbourne, Kentucky, location doubled as the fictional Walbrook Institution in the movie.
