Here’s What to Do If You Hear One of These Emergency Codes at an Indiana Walmart
You may spend a bit more time at Walmart over the coming weeks as you try to find the perfect gifts for those on your Christmas shopping list. During your time at Walmart, you are likely to hear a variety of announcements over the PA, most of which will have nothing to do with you. There are, however, some announcements that you should know about - and you should know what to do if/when you hear them.
Maybe I'm mistaken, but I feel like most communication between Walmart employees these days is done with walkie-talkies, but the PA system is still used for certain occasions. I think the announcement I hear the most is that someone's vehicle is ready at the automotive center. I think it's safe to say that I've never heard a color-coded announcement before, and after learning what the color codes mean, I am in no rush to hear one in real life.
Below is a list of safety codes used on the intercoms at Walmart stores in Indiana and around the country. If you happen to hear one while shopping, the first thing you should do is remain calm. These codes will most likely be followed by instructions from store management. Depending on the situation, you might be instructed to stay put, to hide, to find shelter, or to evacuate the store, for example.
Please note: These announcements are not universal. Other stores will likely use other codes/words.
