70 Degrees ‘Not Out of the Question’ for Christmas Day in Kentucky and Indiana
"I'm dreaming of a white Christmas, just like the ones I used to know" - Irving Berlin
Well...keep dreaming. As I write, we are nine days away from Christmas, and it would appear that those who wish for a blanket of snow on the ground come Christmas morning might be left wanting. In fact, we could be headed in a very opposite direction on the big day.
A Warm Christmas
Let's begin with this Facebook conversation I saw just a few moments ago. It may have raised my eyebrows as far as they can go.
Around these parts, just like E.F. Hutton, when Eyewitness News Chief Meteorologist Wayne Hart speaks about the weather, everybody listens. The phrase "70 not out of the question" has never resonated so loudly. Interestingly, that's also a high I would look forward to in the summer. So let's take a closer look, keeping in mind that "not out of the question" is no guarantee.
Christmas Day Outlook
It's funny. I was thinking about Heat Miser and Cold Miser from that old Christmas special, The Year Without a Santa Claus. The National Weather Service and I are of like minds here.
If you want snow for Christmas, you'd better find friends in New England or elsewhere along the Canadian border because it doesn't look like a white Christmas in western Kentucky and southern Indiana will come to pass. Personally, I'll take one or the other, as long as the snow stays on the grass and trees and not the road. As for above normal temperatures? They go anywhere they want.
