According to the calendar, we still have two months of summer left. But according to YOUR calendar, Mom and Dad, you have just a few weeks, and then it's back-to-school time for the kiddos.

That means you still have time to squeeze in a few more really sweet road trips, so make them count. As a matter of fact, one of those road trips can be REALLY "sweet" if you head to the state capitol.

Frankfort has a beautifully maintained downtown area, capitalizing (no pun intended) on its lofty status in the Commonwealth. When you're not touring the State Capitol Building or visiting the historic cemetery perched high above the city, polish your sweet tooth and get ready for a decadent good time at the Rebecca Ruth Candy Factory & Museum.

You don't HAVE to bring your Model T or your Model A, but it IS a nice touch. No, the folks at Rebecca Ruth's will be happy to see you if you show up in a dog sled. And when you arrive, they'll be ready to make your life a little "sweeter."

Not only  does Rebecca Ruth Candies make delectable treats we'll never forget, but this historic shop is also where the bourbon ball was invented. That's right. If you or anyone you know has a bourbon ball recipe, it's because of Rebecca Ruth; we wouldn't know of their existence without her.

I don't care if you're not hungry; you want a mouthful of those right now, don't you? I know I do. And while Rebecca Ruth Candies specializes in bourbon balls, they offer other amazing delicacies as well.

If you want see how these magnificent morsels are made, you'll need to visit Monday through Thursday. That's when production is in operation. But if you can't make until a Friday or Saturday, you'll still have the time of your life. The tours--during which you will get a free piece of candy--last about 30 minutes and may be scheduled on the Rebecca Ruth Candies website's tour page.

I know, I know. This sounds like something to do closer to the holidays, and you SHOULD tour then. But do it now, freeze the goodies, and surprise your friends at Christmastime.

Happy holidays...a little early.
