As all of you know, I was a full-fledged band nerd all through middle school, high school, and part of college. What you may not know is that marching band is really a year-round activity all thanks to indoor percussion, winter guard, and now indoor wind ensemble competitions. Daviess County High School is hosting such an event this Saturday, March 16th.

The "Winter Spectacular" will host nearly 25 winter guards, three wind ensembles, and six percussion ensembles from Kentucky and Tennessee which includes all three kinds from the host school.

So what is all of this like? Well, here's Daviess County High's indoor percussion ensemble from 2017:

Daviess County's indoor wind ensemble incorporates color guard which almost makes it almost a total indoor marching band experience:

And finally, winterguard is what started the indoor competition phenomenon. Daviess County has a JV and a Varsity guard:

Admission is $10 and the activities will get underway this Saturday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. at Daviess County High's gym in Owensboro.
