With UFOs in the News, It’s Time to Visit Kentucky’s ‘Coca Cola Spaceship’

I quote a certain line from the classic comedy Wag the Dog all the time because there always seems to be an occasion for it.

It's Robert DeNiro's and it goes like this, "Makes you glad you lived this long." Well, I can say that again now that UFO stories are popping up all the time. Have you been seeing any of this?

First of all, let's clear up the "elephant in the room" with regards to the TERM "UFO." It will automatically make people think "space alien," and it need not.

A drone you order from Amazon can be a UFO if it cannot be identified. Hence, the term "unidentified flying object." Hey, a BIRD could fit that description.

But I'm not being coy here; I do know that what we all immediately think about when we hear "UFO" is what has been showing up in headlines over the last several weeks.

UFOs have been dismissed my whole life as something fun, something akin to fairy tales, something about which we can get a good laugh. But NOW? No less an agency than NASA is taking those Navy videos seriously and has opened an investigation.

This is getting serious and it's something I never thought I'd see. The House Intelligence Committee has a classified briefing on the matter and, before too long, an unclassified report will be delivered to and discussed before Congress.

I think this is exciting, even IF it's revealed that it doesn't amount to anything. It's fun if nothing else and that's important. Maybe it's a good time to have a themed celebration of this new news thread. Maybe it's time to head to Lexington and check out the spaceship that sits above the Coca-Cola Plant on Leestown Road.

It's mid-20th century architecture and that's the main reason I love it, but it might look like a spaceship BECAUSE it's mid-20th century, a time when talk of extraterrestrial life and space aliens was very popular.

UnusualKentucky.com indicates it was used in a low-budget sci-fi movie but it doesn't say which one. And since those were a dime a dozen in the 1950s and 1960s, that Google search would be the online equivalent of looking for a needle in a haystack.

Or maybe while you're looking THROUGH that haystack, you run upon a spaceship. There's no rule that says they have to be as big as the ones on Independence Day.
