Chadwick Benefield

Chad Benefield has been with The Country Station, 92.5 WBKR since January of 1998. He joined the WBKR Waking Crew six years ago and, since that time, has been nominated for an Academy of Country Music Award, won a second runner-up Radio and Production Award, and has guest announced on the stage at The Grand Ole Opry . . . three times!Chad is a frequent visitor backstage at the Opry and broadcasts live from there on a regular basis. Chad’s involvement in country music extends beyond working in radio.Chad is a singer/songwriter and has performed in venues from Kentucky to California. He, along with his songwriting partner DJ Potter, have composed three original songs (“Saints and Angels,” “Soar," and "There's Another Star in the Sky") for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. They also composed each track on Jaclyn Graves’ debut CD “Tailgater!” In addition to working as a member of The Waking Crew, Chad also serves as WBKR’s promotion director. He is very involved in community events and charity organizations. He serves as the chairperson for the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life, is an active member of the board of the Polar Bear Plunge to benefit Special Olympics KY and has an instrumental role in the WBKR/WOMI Telecom Pioneers Christmas Wish program. As a matter of fact, he serves as the station’s liaison in that annual endeavor. Chad is also very involved with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and works annually on fundraisers for the March of Dimes, Susan G. Komen Foundation, American Heart Association and ACS’ Making Strides event. Chad came to radio from the world of theatre. Before joining WBKR, Chad worked at a youth performing arts group in San Diego, California. He is a produced playwright on both coasts and remains involved in arts education in school systems around the tri-state. When he’s not working, Chad plays softball, tennis and is a slave to trash television! He also still manages to take the stage and perform from time to time. His impersonations of Elton John, Joan Rivers, Richard Simmons and Donkey from “Shrek” are legendary! And, last year at the Lanham Brothers Jamboree, he unveiled his very own take on "The Evolution of Dance." In fact, Chad promises to roll that out again in 2012!

St. Wendel Third Graders Raise Money for St. Jude [Video]

Last Friday, I drove to Wadesville, IN to visit the 3rd grade class at St. Wendel Catholic School.  My friend Ryan Nowak teaches there and he asked me to come by and talk to his students about St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis.  See, his students are doing a service project and, for it, chose to raise money for the patients of St. Jude.  I decided to share some of my favorite St. Jude stories with the students and introduce them to some of my favorite St. Jude families.  I knew this was a great way to show them the importance of what they're doing and how important raising money for the hospital truly is.  Well, guess what?  These 3rd grade rockstars got amped up and they went to the big Friday night fish fry with buckets in hand!

Winter Weather Advisory in Effect for Parts of WBKR Listening Area

Is this a joke?  A big old nasty, slushy, snowy, cosmic joke?  The National Weather Service in Paducah has issued a Winter Storm Warning for the extreme northern parts of the tri-state and a Winter Weather Advisory for areas along the Ohio River.  The reason . . . Winter Storm Virgil.  That's the name The Weather Channel gave him, though I have a few other choice names we could christen him with!!  So how much snow can we expect?

A Random Girl Slays Whitney and Dolly at Discount Grocery Store Karaoke Machine [Video]

Dolly Parton never minced words about it.  She said that she will always love Whitney Houston's version of her hit "I Will Always Love You" because it sold millions of copies and made Dolly LOTS of money.  I honestly never thought anyone would come close to Whitney's version of that song.  I mean, holy cow!  She sang the bloody hell out of it and it spent 14 weeks at #1 on the Billboard Singles Chart.  So, imagine my surprise when my friend Anissa Jo Skaggs came across THIS video on the web.  Some random girl walked up to a random karaoke machine inside a discount grocery store and laid the song out.  WATCH!

Clever Video Stresses Importance of Breast Cancer Exams [Video]

As you all know, I do a lot of work with the American Cancer Society.  I am the chairperson of Relay For Life here in Daviess County and I also emcee their annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk each fall.  I also work, annually, with Susan G. Komen for the Cure's Bowl for a Cure event here in Owensboro.  But, somehow, as involved as I am, I totally missed this!  Have you seen this video?  It's from Rethink Breast Cancer and it was first circulated online about a year ago.  And it's absolute genius.  Creators of the video wanted to get women to pay attention to really important information about self-examination.  And they did it by giving women what they want . . . MEN!  Look.
