Barb Rides in a Huey Helicopter with Local Veterans at the Owensboro Air Show [VIDEO]
Meet some of our amazing local military veterans, we'll take a ride inside a Huey Helicopter and we'll look at the beauty of Owensboro from high in the sky! Watch the Videos Here!
I was blessed to be asked to ride in a Huey Helicopter during the Owensboro Air Show. I was even more blessed when I found out that I'd be taking the ride with some of our local heroes. These military veterans are so special and I enjoyed spending time with them.
Harold was especially special. He's 92 years young and served in WWII, South Korea and in Vietnam. He said he was excited about the ride to make even more memories. Pretty cool at 92. I loved him instantly and he melted my heart. I got to sit next to him on the flight too. How lucky am I? This photo was after the ride and I have "Huey Hair" as it's called!
The stories along the way, I'll cherish. From the veteran who was shot down in Vietnam. Not once, but twice. Even this exact Huey Helicopter, that we flew on, was shot down 3 times in Vietnam in 1964 and recovered. Glad this was mentioned after we landed safely! It was an amazing afternoon and I hope you enjoy the Owensboro Air Show this weekend in downtown Owensboro!
Saturday & Sunday at the Owensboro Riverfront. 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM
Admission is FREE - You can see the schedule of events and more information here: https://www.owensboroairshow.com/
I got to chat with these American Heroes before we took the ride of our lives! They are special.
Owensboro looks beautiful from the air. I knew we had a lot of farmland in this community, but just didn't realize how much. Our farmers are amazing and these are some spectacular views!
The sounds from inside the Huey Helicopter is something else. I asked one of the Veterans if it brings him back to Vietnam, and he said that it's just like riding a bike. Something you NEVER forget and this helicopter ride took him back. These brave men are indeed something special and I'm just glad I got to spend time with them on a beautiful day in Owensboro!
