Dave’s Top 10 of ’12 – #9 Somebody’s Heartbreak by Hunter Hayes [VIDEO]

I keep wanting call this kid a kid. See, I did it again. Well, he looks like he’s 12. He’s actually 21. And he’s really, really talented. I’d call Hunter Hayes a prodigy.

His big breakthrough #1 smash, “Wanted,” has a lot to do with this multi-talented singer, songrwriter, producer, and musician’s CMA Top New Artist win and his Best New Artist Grammy nomination. And it’s a good song.

But the follow-up is the one that I think sounds better in the car. Yep, it’s winter and I’ll dare to roll down the windows when those jazzy opening guitar riffs and that cool first-verse pause in “Somebody’s Heartbreak”–which Hayes co-wrote with Andrew Dorff and Luke Laird–start coming through the speakers. It’s a clever lyric about a guy volunteering to let a particular girl break his heart, if she must. Good stuff.
