The premiere of American Idol was full of talent and emotion Sunday night. It also featured quite a surprise for fans of the show who live in southern Indiana and the Louisville, Kentucky area. Kennedy Reid, who's a mortician from New Albany, auditioned for Lionel Richie, Katy Perry and Luke Bryan.

Kennedy brought her best friend Jean Ann with her. The two met about a little over a year ago at a John Conlee concert. Conlee, of course, is probably best known for his country hit "Rose Colored Glasses."  More on that particular song in a second.

For her audition, Kennedy decided to sing Tina Turner's "River Deep, Mountain High." Naturally, Jean Ann banged the song out on the keys for her. While the judges were impressed by the power of Kennedy's voice, it's what happened after her solo that really got their attention.

When Kennedy and Jean Ann shared they had met at a John Conlee concert, Jean Ann started playing "Rose Colored Glasses" on the piano and Luke Bryan started to sing it. Then, Kennedy started to sing and harmonize with him.

As you can see, Kennedy got her golden ticket and now advances to Hollywood Week.

American Idol airs Sunday evenings at 7pm CST (8pm EST for Kennedy fans in the Louisville Metro area).

According to recent reports, this will be Katy Perry's final season on the show. American Idol moved to ABC from FOX seven years ago and Katy, Lionel and Luke Bryan have comprised the judges panel since the show switched networks.
