Tonight, Owensboro-based nonprofit, Beverly's Hearty Slice, will be lighting up the sky like it's the 4th of July. And while it may not exactly be Independence Day, there's no doubt that Travis Owsley, the founder of Beverly's Hearty Slice, and his board are getting a jump start on the festivities.

Travis and fellow board member Terry Pollard have been hitting up local fireworks stores to get ready for the big night. BOGO Fireworks, who this year celebrate their 25th anniversary, got them hooked up.

Beverly's Hearty Slice was created during the COVID-19 pandemic- in September of 2020. Travis created the charity in honor of his mother, who was known for her hospitality and sharing her delicious home-cooking with the neighborhood. That spirit prompted Travis to create his nonprofit. Since that time, he and his team of volunteers have been serving up free pizza at special events in economically-challenged areas of town. That's precisely what inspired the name Beverly's Hearty Slice.

Friday evening, there will be plenty of hearty slices and a hefty fireworks display as well. Plus, the event will honor former MotoGP World Champion, Nicky Hayden!

Nicky Hayden, known around the world as The Kentucky Kid, passed away on May 22nd, 2017. His family has created the Nicky Hayden Memorial Foundation, which will also be celebrated during Friday's show.
