Chad & Dave Tackle the New Playground at Smothers Park [Video]

Last weekend, the City of Owensboro unveiled the all-new Smothers Park downtown! And thousands of people flocked to Veteran's Boulevard to check out the new riverfront at Friday After Five and Saturday during the Owensboro Air Show. Dave Spencer and I were there overgrand-opening weekend as well, broadcasting live and chatting with folks about the exciting downtown improvements. But, it didn't take us long standing in the cool new playground at Smothers Park to realize we wanted in on the action too. And, after watching some little kids fly out of one slide in particular, we knew it was on!

The public is getting its first official look at the newly redesigned and reopened Smothers Park this weekend. The park was officially unveiled last night during a special edition of Friday After Five! Today, folks are invited downtown to see the new park, then turn their eyes to the sky! The Owensboro Air Show is ready to soar into action!!

This is pretty neat. In an effort to help get folks to the ever-growing and ever-evolving downtown portion of Owensboro to experience the charms and allure of unique downtown businesses and restaurants, Steve Champion has followed a trend taking place in larger cities across the United States. And his version of "Downtown Date Night" is getting more and more popular here in Owensboro. Steve recently shared a video with some "Date Night" highlights that show folks enjoying beautiful Thursday evenings downtown, live music and new friends. Take a look!

We are just a couple of weeks away from the grand opening of the all-new Smothers Park in downtown Owensboro. Renovation and redesign of this park is a centerpiece of the efforts to revitalize the Owensboro riverfront and it will be officially unveilved August 23rd through the 25th! But, thanks to Owensboro Parent, we have been given a SNEAK PEAK into what the new park looks like and the features it has in store. This is VERY cool! So, come on! Take a look. It's almost Bar-B-Q Festival time in downtown Owensboro!! It's one of the few times of the year someone can ask, "What's that smell?" and you don't mind to tell them! LOL! The International Bar-B-Q Festival has been around since way back in 1979. Not only is it tradition in Owensboro, but it essentially put Owensboro on the map. See, Memphis can claim Bar-B-Q. Uh . . . whatever! St. Louis can claim good eatin' too! Uh . . . always a bridesmaid St. Louie! Better stick with that arch! But Owensboro IS the Bar-B-Q capital of the world! And the International Bar-B-Q Festival, the 2nd weekend of each May, is just a reminder how good OUR Bar-B-Q is!
