Poole's Pharmacy Care and The Country Station, 92.5 WBKR are once again teaming up to bring you the St. Jude Radiothon!  Chad here inviting you to tune in Thursday, February 24th and Friday, February 25th as we bring you stories of inspiration and hope from St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis.

Here at WBKR, we had record-setting years in 2009 and 2010 and look to break our all-time fundraising total again in 2011!  To help, we have some very exciting new features planned for this year's event.  First of all, each day we'll present to you The ABC's Of Cancer as written by the patients of St. Jude.  We have invited local school children to come read this beautiful and moving poetry on behalf of the patients of St. Jude.  Not only will you hear how those patients are affected by disease and treated by St. Jude, you'll be introduced to them and the disease each is battling.  These kids are triumphant and their emotional testimonies illustrate how important St. Jude is to the lives of our youngsters!  The ABC's of Cancer will be presented proudly by Diamond Lake Campground and Resort.

Our second new feature, and one we are so excited about, is the GIGGLE BREAK!  We know the subject matter during the St. Jude Radiothon can be very heavy.  I often hear from listeners who tell me they found themselves sitting in their cars crying during the broadcast or had to walk into work with mascara running down their faces.  This year, once an hour, we are going to lighten the mood with GIGGLE BREAKS sponsored by In Touch AT&T and Roberts Motor Sales.  These GIGGLE BREAKS will be a joyous reminder of how precious the sound of a healthy child can be.

And the 3rd new feature this year is our CELEBRITY PHONE BANK!  Each day from 1 to 5pm, our WBKR/St. Jude Phone Bank will be manned by some very well-known local celebrities.  Among those joining us for this special event will be WEHT news anchor Shelley Kirk, WEHT meteorologists Wayne Hart and David Heckard, Daviess County Judge Executive Al Mattingly, Owensboro City Councilwoman Pam Smith-Wright, and local musicians like Andy Brasher, Natasha Neely, Emily Clark, Elliott Sublett, Heath and Molly, Straight Laced, and Brad McCrady as "Elvis."  In addition to answering phones for us, our musicians will come to the studio and share their talents in hopes of inspiring you to get behind the wonderful cause that is St. Jude Children's Research Hospital!

And, of course, this year we will continue to bring you our own original music inspired by St. Jude!  In 2009, my songwriting buddy DJ Potter and I wrote Saints and Angels, which was recorded by Jaclyn Graves and Katie Beste.  Last year, we all joined forces again for our 2010 St. Jude song "Soar."  This year, I partnered with Matt Gray of Gray Sky Music and Jaclyn to write "There's Another Star In The Sky", which was recorded by Jaclyn, Katie and Teresa Cook!  We are very proud of this song and cannot wait to unveil the finished product during our Poole's Pharmacy Care St. Jude Radiothon.  We hope that it inspires you to join in the fight against childhood cancer and become a St. Jude Partner-In-Hope!  Thanks to Matt, Katie and Teresa Cook for helping us give this song wings!

Here at WBKR, we love you guys.  Some 20 years ago, Randy Owen from Alabama teamed up with St. Jude to form COUNTRY CARES, a network of country radio stations in the nation committed to raising money for St. Jude.  Randy, being one of the biggest stars in the business, knew that country fans and country listeners would step up to the plate and help out with the cause.  He knows that COUNTRY CARES!  We definitely care and know that you all do as well.  On February 24th and 25th, we're going to ask you all to step up to the plate.  And, together, we're gonna knock it out of the park.

So, don't miss the 2011 WBKR St. Jude Radiothon presented by Poole's Pharmacy Care.  It's 6a-7p on Thursday, Feb 24th and 6a-7p on Friday, February 25th!  Remember . . . as Danny Thomas said . . . "No child should die in the dawn of life."
